Change behaviour to combat AIDS

Though the government is actively involved in creating awareness to combat AIDS, the people too should change their attitudes to effectively fight the fatal disease, Minister of State for Health Panabaaka Lakshmi said here Monday.
Speaking at the foundation day of the Evangelical Fellowship of India Commissions on Relief (EFICOR), the minister said: "Numerous initiatives have been undertaken for awareness but the need is to bring in a behavioural change."
EFICOR is a Christian philanthropic association working for create awareness and educate people about several health menaces including AIDS.
"The challenge is to ensure that all segments of the society understand the risk, get educated about the menace and take necessary protection," she said.
Speaking about the HIV positive patients who were employed, she said employers had greater responsibility towards their "special employees" by providing them "AIDS insurance, medical reimbursement and provide guidelines ensuing compassionate management of these employees".
