[RxPG] For the first time since the avian flu virus was reported in India in February, the death of poultry birds in Tamil Nadu has raised serious concerns with owners rushing to veterinary centres.

More than 20 chickens dropped dead Saturday in Manakkad area of Salem district, 400 km south of here. They have been sent to laboratories for tests.

Tamil Nadu has been on high alert ever since India's first case of bird flu was detected in Navapur village of Nandurbar district, some 300 km from Mumbai, last month.
