New Delhi, May 4 - The capital's civic authorities Friday cleared a proposal to allow commercial activity on 307 more roads, providing relief to traders from a sealing drive on illegal commercial establishments that had led to much chaos in Delhi.
The newly elected Municipal Corporation of Delhi - passed the resolution to allow commercial activity on the roads. In the new Master Plan commercial activity has been allowed on 2,183 roads.
'We have passed the proposal and sent it to the state government and the central urban development ministry for approval,' said Y. Chandolia, member of the MCD standing committee.
He said they have also asked the urban development ministry to give them 90 more days to carry out a survey and suggest amendments to the new master plan.
'The three months time given to MCD will come to an end May 7, but in the last 45 days there was virtually no work. We have requested the ministry to consider this,' he said, adding that an amnesty proposal has been passed to provide complete relief from sealing.
An amnesty scheme can only come into force if the urban development ministry approves it and the parliament passes it with a majority.
