[RxPG] Jaipur, April 12 - To make Rajasthan the epicentre for tourists during the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India - has asked the centre to release a special package of Rs.10 billion for the state.
'We have mooted a proposal to the union government in this regard. The fund would be utilised for renovating and beautifying tourist spots,' said Assocham chief Venugopal Dhoot.
Dhoot also met state Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and said matching funds should be earmarked by the state government in the proposed package to encourage the growth of budgeted and three-star hotels, which would in turn increase employment opportunities.
He suggested that if the funds came in well in advance, beautification of historic monuments, lakes, ponds and so on could be leased out to agencies of repute.
'The government of Rajasthan should commence the job of site identification with a detailed feasibility report by floating tenders now as there is little time left for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games,' he added.
