[RxPG] New Delhi, May 7 - Telecom-to-retail group Bharti Enterprises' wholly owned subsidiary Bharti Resources Monday announced a strategic partnership with Global Retail School - to create manpower for the retail trade industry.

Chandigarh-based GRS is promoted by Cosmo Aviation Training School, which also runs an airhostess training school called Flying Cats.

Even though the media invite mentioned Wal-Mart, alluding that the US retail giant was involved in the project, the organisers subsequently denied any such relationship.

Bharti has a pact with Wal-Mart in the cash-and-carry aspect of wholesale trade industry in the country as also in the area of logistics for the retail trade sector.

'Wal-Mart is not involved in this at all. If need be, we may recruit people from this school for Wal-Mart,' Sanjeev Duggal, chief executive for Bharti Resources, said on the sidelines of the event.

'But that does not meant we will not provide the same to others like Pantaloons or Reliance,' he remarked.

'Wal-Mart has got nothing to do with this. No one knows whether they are coming into India at all or not,' added Aditi Srivastava, the chief executive of Global Retail School.

GRS also launched 30 learning centres, which will be known as Bharti Resources Learning Centres - spread across the country and has plans to churn out 15,000 professionals annually.

The courses offered in this school include a one-year diploma programme in retail management in alliance with Annamalai University, Chennai. Other courses for three and six months will be offered in collaboration with Bharti Resources.

'Students for the one-year diploma course will get their certificates from the Annamalai University and GRS. And the first right of refusal for the placements of the students will lie with Bharti,' Srivastava said.

Bharti Resources, part of Bharti Enterprise, is into its first year of operation and it will provide learning and development solutions in the area of customer service.
