Continental advances launch of New Jersey-Mumbai service

[RxPG] New Delhi, May 9 - US carrier Continental Airlines Wednesday said it was advancing the launch of its non-stop service between Mumbai and New Jersey by close to a month following positive market response to the proposed flights.
'Subject to government approval, the service will now begin on Oct 2, 2007 for westbound. Continental will initially operate the service four times a week, departing Mumbai on Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays,' it said.
The frequency will be increased to daily from Oct 28. In its original announcement in March, Continental planned to launch the daily service on the route from Oct 31, 2007.
'We are pleased to be able to bring forward the start date of the Mumbai service,' said Jim Summerford, Continental's vice president for Europe, Middle East and India.
'We have been delighted with the response to our original announcement from customers in both India and the US and we are confident the service will be a great success.'
The Mumbai-Newark flight will operate on Boeing 777-200 aircraft. Flight CO49 will depart Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 11.45 p.m. and arrive in Newark at 6.30 a.m. the following day.
The return flight, CO48, will leave Newark on Mondays and Sundays at 7.20 p.m. and arrive in Mumbai at 7.40 p.m. the next day, while on Fridays and Saturdays, it will depart Newark at 8.00 p.m. and arrive in Mumbai at 8.20 p.m. the following day.
Flying time will be approximately 16 hours 15 minutes westbound and 14 hours 50 minutes eastbound, said the airline, which is the fifth largest in the world.

The India flights will feature special products and services such as a Bollywood movie channel with English subtitles, other channels with Hindi subtitles, Indian music and Indian vegetarian and Indian non-vegetarian cuisine.
