[RxPG] New Delhi, March 23 - The central government has given its green signal for setting up a facilitation centre for overseas Indians that will serve as a 'one-stop-shop' and extend a wide range of need-based services.

The government will extend assistance on matters related to Overseas Citizen of India -/Persons of Indian Origin - cards scholarship to the children of non-resident Indians and also to overseas Indians visiting India, a Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs - statement said Friday.

The proposal was approved by the cabinet after an initiative taken by Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi.

The facilitation centre, to be set up as a not-for-profit trust, will be set up by the MOIA in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry -. The office of the trust will be in Delhi.

The ministry and CII will share the costs of establishing the trust and its operations for the first three years. The ministry proposes to provide a Rs.7.5-million assistance to CII over the next three years, the release added.

The objectives of the facilitation centre will be to promote overseas Indian investment into India and facilitate business partnership, establish and maintain a diaspora knowledge network, function as a clearing house for all investment-related information.
