[RxPG] New Delhi, April 27 - Thousands of MBA aspirants can finally breathe a sigh of relief with the human resource development - ministry Friday issuing a directive to the Indian Institutes of Management - to release admission lists like in previous years.
HRD Minister Arjun Singh Friday afternoon formally issued directives to all central government funded higher educational institutes, including the six IIMs, to release the lists for general category and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe aspirants.
'We are issuing the communication right now and they can go ahead with the admission process. Increased seats with OBC quota can be accommodated after May 8,' Singh told reporters.
The premier IIM-Ahmedabad said they were set to release the first admission list by Friday evening.
'Everything is ready and as soon as we receive a formal communication from the HRD ministry the admission process will roll on,' said an IIM-A professor.
The admission process at the six IIMs has been delayed due to the March 29 Supreme Court stay on a law reserving 27 percent seats for OBCs in all centrally funded institutions of higher learning. The apex court will hear the government's plea against the stay on May 8.
On Thursday, the United Progressive Alliance - and the Left parties agreed on Singh's two-admission list proposal.
'It was decided to allow the IIMs to complete their admission process for the general, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories as in preceding years,' Communist Party of India - leader D. Raja had said Thursday night.
'As far as the OBC quota is concerned, it has been agreed to wait till May 8. If the quota issue is nor resolved by the court, then there was a view that it should be taken up by parliament,' Raja had added.
