Kerala team to visit Middle East to seek investment

[RxPG] Thiruvananthapuram, April 19 - Kerala is sending a high level delegation to the Middle East next month to scout for investors who can help set up industries in the state.
Elamaram Kareem, the industries minister, will lead the team that will hold meetings in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Doha, Oman and Bahrain to woo non-resident Keralites to invest in Kerala.
This was stated by John Mathai, managing director of newly formed Infrastructure Kerala Ltd -.
'The delegation led by the minister would showcase to the people in these countries the steps the government has taken. And on display would be the proposed Rubber Park in Ranni in Pathanamthita district, the proposed Electronic Hardware Park at Kochi, besides the role of InKel,' said Mathai, a former chief secretary.
Kareem was in Delhi last week where he had discussions with the top brass of Apollo Tyres as well as central ministers.
'Apollo Tyres has agreed to be the anchor customer at the proposed Rubber Park which is going to come up in a 100 acre campus at Ranni. Besides them, there would be other companies who would set up plants in the park,' said Mathai.
The Electronic Hardware Park is to be set up at Kochi and the government is trying to identify land for it.
The visit comes at a time when the proposed Smart City project to be built by the Dubai Internet City - at Kochi is set to be cleared by the V.S. Achuthanandan government at next week's cabinet meeting.
