[RxPG] Bangalore, May 15 - 'Shop till you drop' is the catch line of Nok Air, the Thai budget carrier, which has made Bangalore its first overseas destination to fly Indians to Bangkok on a shopping spree.
Touted as the world's first shopper's airline, Nok Air is set to operate daily Boeing 737-400 flights from Bangalore to Bangkok from June 1 and ferry its passengers to shop at the Siam Paragon and Chatuchak weekend market in the Thai capital for a unique, luxurious shopping experience.
'We have chosen Bangalore as our first international destination for launching this unique service to Bangkok, a shopper's paradise, enriched by its cultural sites and adventurous nightlife and popular tourist attractions,' Nok Airlines CEO Patee Sarasin told reporters here Tuesday.
'Unlike other airlines, we will fly the Indian public for a holiday with a difference, characterised by a unique opportunity to shop till you drop at Siam Paragon, the most popular shopping complex in Southeast Asia, and other picturesque and hot tourist destinations such as Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, Phuket, Hat Yai and Nakhon Si Thammarat,' Patee said.
Starting with an initial fare of Rs.9,999 - for a round-trip ticket, the 150-seater aircraft will take off from Bangalore in the wee hours - and land in Bangkok in the early hours - to offer maximum time for passengers to relax, go sight-seeing and shop till late in the night.
'The packaged service consists of hotel accommodation, convenient transport to Siam Paragon, Chatuchak market and trips to tourist spots in and around Bangkok. Even business travellers can combine their official engagements with leisure activities and can opt for visiting shopping places or sight-seeing of their choice,' Patee said at a preview of the launch service.
The budget airline has tied up with the shopping complex to offer 15 percent discount on standard prices for its passengers. Besides exotic Thai and continental dishes, the airline has made arrangements to provide Indian cuisine, including vegetarian food on board and in Bangkok.
The Thai airline has also secured landing rights to operate daily non-stop flights to Bangkok from Chennai, Hyderabad and New Delhi over the next five-seven months.
On the choice of India as the airline's first international destination, Patee said the phenomenal growth of the Indian aviation sector spanning domestic and overseas routes had made the subcontinent an attractive proposition.
As a world-class shopping and entertainment rendezvous, Siam Paragon, spread over 500,000 square metres, boasts of a sprawling department store with 250 global and local brands, edutainment and exploration centres. It also hosts Asia's largest aquarium and an entertainment plaza.
'Siam Paragon is not only the pride of Bangkok, but also a jewel of Asia, as it offers a unique leisure-cum-shopping experience with a plethora of exclusive retail shops, gourmet market, food stalls, exotic Thai massage, parkscape, lagoon and Thai culture,' Patee added.
