[RxPG] Chennai, May 19 - India's heavyweight motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield has announced the launch of its latest 500cc bike Machismo, priced at about Rs.105,000.

The company aims at manufacturing 500 units of the new Machismo a year in the country. So far, the Machismo factory in Thiruvottriyur on the city's outskirts used to make motorcycles for overseas sales.

Among the first few lucky ones to get the branded classic motorcycle was one Om Prasad, who runs a tea stall in Adyar, Chennai.

'I have been dreaming of such a bike since I was a boy,' gushed the 64-year-old tea-stall owner, who has spent all his savings to get the super bike.

Another lucky winner was director of Tamil and Telugu films Suresh Balaji.

Royal Enfield sells nearly 4,000 motorbikes to Europe, the US and Japan. It had launched the Bullet Machismo variant in overseas markets about a year and a half ago.

Introducing the 40.85 Nm, 19-inch wheels model that is Euro-III compliant in Indian markets, Anupam Thareja, director, Royal Enfield, said here Friday: 'The Machismo 500 aims to provide urban India a motorcycling experience that is beyond 'commuter biking'.'

A confident Thareja said 'Royal Enfield has co-existed successfully in Europe and the US with the Harley Davidson' and he did not see any threat to the company's business from the US motorbike maker entering India.

A Harley Davidson bike, with a 660cc engine, draws 100 percent import duty and may cost as much as Rs.1.5 million in India.

The Chennai-based Royal Enfield brand, which has a great demand in both domestic and overseas markets, plans to scale up its production by the year-end to 40,000 units, Thareja said.
