[RxPG] Ahmedabad, March 13 - Eleven students of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad - have this year said no to attractive pay packages during the campus placement drive as they want to follow their own dreams.

A number of leading global and national firms had pitched their tents at the five-day placement event ending Monday at the IIMA campus here, offering salaries in the range of $225,000 to $300,000 for international jobs and between Rs.6 million and Rs.10 million a year for Indian jobs.

However, the 11 students of the prestigious business school either opted out of placements or rejected job offers to start their own enterprise, IIMA authorities told the media Tuesday.

This encouraging trend highlights the confidence IIMA students have in their abilities, and their penchant for taking risks, they said.

Two of these students rejected offers in excess of Rs.10 million from investment banks and opted for starting their own ventures.

Piyush Sinha, faculty chairperson of the Student Placement Committee, said that placements for the 2007 batch of 235 students confirmed that IIMA not only provides good education for entry-level but also for middle-level management as well as for entrepreneurs.

Gargi Agarwal, one of the 11 students, is a budding social entrepreneur and plans to work in the field of education.

'I want to provide a healthy learning environment that will prepare children to face future challenges in every field,' she said.
