India, Kuwait to sign labour welfare pact

New Delhi, April 6 - Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi will visit Kuwait and Qatar for a weeklong visit during the course of which he will sign a landmark labour welfare pact with Kuwait.
Ravi will sign the memorandum of understanding - on labour, employment and manpower development with Kuwait's Minister for Labour and Social Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, according to officials in the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs -.
Kuwait is home to around 500,000 Indian expatriates, many of whom work as contract labourers.
The Indian minister will also call on the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahamed al-Jaber, besides meeting various ministers of that Gulf state.
He will also meet representatives of Indian associations and leaders of the Indian community as also a number of industrialists there.
Ravi will leave for Doha April 10 where he will meet various ministers and representatives of Indian associations. There are around 150,000 Indians in Qatar.
He will attend an open house at the MES Indian School April 13 where he will listen to problems face by Indian workers.
The minister will return to India the next day.
