India, Nepal agree on border controls

[RxPG] New Delhi, April 2 - India Monday discussed with Nepal the turbulence brewing in the Terai region that is in the grip of an agitation by Madhesis, people of Indian origin living in that area, and agreed on the need to strengthen border controls.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met his Nepalese counterpart Girija Prasad Koirala and expressed his support for the ongoing peace-building process in Nepal that saw the formation Sunday of an interim government, which included former Maoist rebels for the first time in the country's history.
'We have already strengthened border controls. It's in Nepal's interest and it's in India's interest,' Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon told reporters here.
The two leaders also discussed the issue of Bhutanese refugees in Nepal.

The Indian prime minister also met his Bhutanese counterpart Khandu Wangchuk, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Bangladesh caretaker government's chief advisor Fakhruddin Ahmed and discussed with them a broad range of bilateral and regional issues.
