NRI accused of murder sent to judicial custody

[RxPG] New Delhi, April 2 - Avtar Singh Grewal, an NRI detained on entering India for allegedly killing his wife in the US, was produced Monday before the Patiala House courts for initiation of extradition proceedings.
The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate sent Grewal to judicial custody till April 9.
The non-resident Indian - was detained late Saturday at the Indira Gandhi International Airport by the Central Bureau of Investigation on the strength of a 'look out notice' by the Federal Bureau of Investigation - of the US.
He was later handed over to the airport police.
The NRI was fleeing to India after having allegedly murdered his estranged wife Navneet Kaur in Phoenix, Arizona.
'No case has been registered against the accused here, so we are not investigating the matter,' assistant commissioner of police P.L. Suri said.
'The concerned authorities in the US have been informed formally and now it is up to the governments of the two countries to pursue the case further,' he added.

Grewal was spotted outside his wife's home Thursday, the day she was killed. After allegedly killing Kaur, he flew out of Phoenix to New Jersey and then bought a one-way ticket to India, a senior Delhi Police official said.
