Over 16,000 Gulf students to sit for CBSE boards

[RxPG] New Delhi, Feb 14 - Over 16,000 students from the Gulf countries will appear for the Central Board of Secondary Education - examinations for both class 10 and 12 in 2007.
For the class 10 board examination that begins March 2, 9,869 students from 92 schools would appear. For the class 12 final examination 6,203 candidates from 55 schools would take the papers beginning March 1.
These students are from several Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain.
Of the 9,869 students in class 10 in Gulf schools, 4990 would be male students and 4,879 are female students. Similarly in the class 12, there are 3,212 female candidates as against 2,991 male students.
'Gulf countries are very important for us and this year 16072 students are taking the examinations in both secondary level and senior secondary level,' said Ashok Ganguly, chairman of CBSE.
Ganguly said they have made all arrangements for these students and have started sending admit cards.
'For class 10 we have set up 37 centres and for class 12, 33 centres have been set up in Gulf cities,' he said, adding that five helplines, including one in Dubai, have been working to help these students get examination related information.
In 2007, a total of 705,152 candidates will appear for the class 10 examination both in India and aboard. A total of 502,688 students would take the class 12 examinations both in India and other countries.

'We had introduced internal evaluation in social science last year and this year along with the last subject, science and mathematics have been included in that fold,' Ganguly told IANS.
