[RxPG] New Delhi, April 17 - Supreme Court Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan Tuesday constituted a bench of Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice L.S. Panta for early hearing of the government plea to revive the law for 27 percent reservation for Other Backward Classes - students in central educational institutions.
The law had been suspended March 29 by the bench of Justice Pasayat and Panta.
With the constitution of the bench, the government is set to formally apprise it Wednesday that it has filed a 'clarification application' in the apex court on the March 29 order and request it to hear it at the earliest to revoke the order.
On Monday, as Solicitor General G.E. Vahanvati mentioned about the application before a three-judge bench headed by Justice Pasayat, he asked him to take up the matter before the same bench, which had given the stay.
Justice Pasayat told Vahanvati to mention the matter when he is sitting with Justice Panta, as the order had been passed when he was sitting with him.
Asked when he would be sitting with Justice Panta, Justice Pasayat had said, 'I cannot say.'
