Guest teachers to aid of Madhya Pradesh's tribal schools

Bhopal, May 13 - To beat the shortage of educators, Madhya Pradesh has come up with a simple solution - guest teachers. And the arrangement will start with schools run by the tribal welfare department.
'The government has sanctioned the guest teacher arrangement against the vacant posts of teachers in schools run by the tribal welfare department,' an official of the education department said.
'There would be two categories of teachers - immediate and temporary', the official said. 'There would be a panel of five guest teachers - preferably retired ones - in every institution and it would be valid only for that particular academic session.'
The panel of guest teachers will be prepared in consultation with the head of the institution and the president of the parent teacher association -. An honorarium will be paid to each through the PTAs.
The guest educators have been divided into two categories - lecturer grade and teacher grade. The first will be paid an honorarium of Rs.50 per class and the second Rs.40 per class.
Also, the honorarium would be paid for a maximum four classes a day and the maximum payment will be Rs.4,000 for category-1 guest teachers and Rs.3,200 for category-2 guest teachers. Also, they would be allowed to teach for a maximum of 20 days a month.
To maintain the quality of teaching, the official said, there would also be a provision for the head of an institution to evaluate the work of the guest teacher.
'If their performance is not satisfactory they would not be assigned teaching work. Some other guest teacher on the panel would be invited to replace such a teacher,' the official claimed.
