IIM-A to follow apex court ruling on quota

[RxPG] Ahmedabad, March 31 - The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad - will not implement new cast-based reservation policy from the next academic year if the Supreme Court stay on the issue is not vacated.
'This institute will not violate any law of the land,' IIMA board of directors chairman Vijaypat Singhania told reporters here.
The Supreme Court Thursday stayed the implementation of a new law enacted by the central government to provide for 27 percent quota for Other Backward Classes - in central higher education institutes.
Hearing a bunch of petitions, the apex court gave the ruling saying the law was based on old census data.
IIMA director Bakul Dholakia had indicated Thursday that the admission process for the new academic year, taking into consideration the quota policy, was already on.
However, after a meeting of the board of directors, Singhania said that the institute will not implement the new quota if the Supreme Court's stay is not vacated by April 12, the cut-off date for the shortlisting of the candidates.
