[RxPG] New Delhi, March 29 - A group of 25 media students and journalists from Jammu and Kashmir arrived here Thursday to attend a two-day workshop on peace journalism organised by a Delhi-based research organisation.
The training session Friday and Saturday, organised by WISCOMP -, would explore the active role of the media in building peace in the strife-torn state.
The workshop 'Exploring Peace Journalism' has been conceptualised to help in translating the principles of peace journalism into concrete tools for action, especially in the context of media reportage on Jammu and Kashmir.
The workshop would seek to critically analyse the goals and principles of peace journalism by facilitating interaction between media students and journalists in Delhi.
'We are aiming at identifying the scope of peace journalism and its role in developing a new media lexicon for regions affected by protracted conflict,' said a WISCOMP official.
Two journalists from Pakistan would also address the students during the workshop.
Recognising the crucial role of the media in shaping public perceptions about conflict, the workshop will provide a context to explore the challenges in conflict reportage, the official added.
'It seeks to develop alternative alphabet of framing and reporting conflict in ways that promote peace and conflict resolution.'
