[RxPG] Patna, April 4 - Patna University has come out with an innovative measure to stop cheating in exams - sniffer dogs!
The university used the dogs for the first time in the final year exams to minimise the possibility of cheating, said Surendra Singhda, Patna University's examination controller.
He added that the dogs, trained by a private security agency, were pressed into service to sniff out 'objectionable material' from examinees.
It was also the first time that the university hired private security guards to keep vigil during exams instead of the state police.
Singhda said the dogs, however, did not find any 'objectionable material' during the first day of exams Tuesday. But the move caused panic among the examinees.
'Are we terrorists or criminals?' an angry student asked. 'The dogs unnerved many of us,' he added.
Over 7,000 candidates are appearing in the examinations from different centres of the university here.
Bihar is notorious for cheating during exams. A few months ago, the police had to use force to disperse people demanding that cheating be allowed during exams.
