[RxPG] Ranchi, May 12 - A Class 9 student is in hospital here with a fractured shoulder after he was hit with a hammer by his teacher for failing to bring a book.
Sugam Kumar Singh of Loyola school had forgotten to bring his English literature book on Friday and this infuriated his teacher, Subrato Das. Das first slapped the boy and later beat him with a hammer used to ring the class bell. After hitting the student, the teacher asked him to go out of school.
Sugam was admitted to Raj hospital in Ranchi.
'The teacher is either mad or he was drunk. He should be punished so that he does not repeat such an incident in future,' said Shibu Singh, the boy's father. He is a senior guard with a bank.
The school administration has suspended the teacher and asked him for an explanation.
'The teacher has been suspended for one month. We are unable to understand why the teacher beat up the student in such a manner,' said Satyaprakash, the school principal.
