Amitabh to brief media about eighth IIFA event

The announcements were made following an industry voting, audited by PriceWatehouse Coopers, the firm that does auditing for both IIFA and the Oscars.

[RxPG] New Delhi, May 7 - Amitabh Bachchan, one of the brand ambassadors of International Indian Film Academy -, will give an overview of the various activities planned for the eighth IIFA awards Tuesday at a press conference.

This year, the four-day event will be held in Yorkshire from June 7-10.

The delegation will announce the film chosen by IIFA for the world premiere, the names of celebrities who will perform at the event and the 10 short-listed semi-finalists for IFFA 'Star ki Talash'. Amitabh will himself groom the semi-finalists.

Sabbas Joseph -, Amit Mitra -, Judith Donovan, -, Sanjeev Aga -, Adam Purser - and Garry Topp - will attend the event.

They will also discuss the agenda for this year's global business forum.

Recently, IIFA announced the list of winners in the Technical Awards category. Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra's much acclaimed film 'Rang De Basanti' picked up a haul of seven awards: the award for best cinematography has gone to Binod Pradhan, best editing, to P.S. Bharathi, best art direction, Samir Chanda, best background score and best song recording to A.R. Rahman, best sound recording to Nakul Kamte and best sound re-recording to Hitendra Gosh.

Commenting on the awards, an elated Mehra said: 'I'm overwhelmed with the response 'Rang De Basanti' has generated. The awards in the technical category truly encourage and applaud the excellence of people who work behind the scenes in making a film successful. I would like to thank my fans across India and the world and the IIFA platform for appreciating our film.'

Rakesh Roshan's 'Krishh', a story of India's first superhero played by Hrithik Roshan got two awards - best action by Tony Siutung and Shyam Kushal, and best special effects - by EFX studios.

'Dhoom 2', an extravagant visual delight that captivated audiences with Hrithik's rakish looks and its breathtaking locales, grabbed the awards for best costume designing by Anaita Adajania and best make-up by G.A. James for giving Hrithik his distinctive look.

'Omkara', Vishal Bhardwaj's interpretation of William Shakespeare's classic 'Othello', that took viewers straight into the heartland of India where politics and power equations are bread and butter of the inhabitants, fetched the best choreography award for Ganesh Acharya for the song 'Beedi jalaile'.

The trophies will be presented at the eighth IDEA IIFA awards ceremony to be held on June 9, 2007, Yorkshire.
