[RxPG] Thiruvananthapuram, May 12 - Malayalam films have now become commercial products and need to be vigorously marketed to get the audience, believes ace Malayalam film director Kamal.

'It was a different scenario not long ago when film-goers came on their own. The role of a film director is over the moment the film is released, but now we have to shout from the rooftops and appear on TV channels asking the audience to come and see the film. A Malayalam film now has become like any product and has to be vigorously marketed,' Kamal told reporters here Saturday.

Into the 16th year as director, Kamal Friday saw his 38th film 'Goal' released.

'My new film is totally different from my last film 'Karutha Pakshigal'. 'Goal' follows the current trend of a film made for youngsters and so compromises have been made to make it palatable to the changing times,' he said.

'Karutha Pakshikal', starring superstar Mammootty, was about a Tamil migrant who ekes out a living pressing clothes in Kerala. It was a thoroughly serious film.

'I don't think I have the same level of satisfaction for 'Goal' as compared to aesthetically superior 'Karutha Pakshigal'. Both are totally different and since I have to cater to all sections, compromises have to be made,' said Kamal.

Football is the central theme of 'Goal' and has quite a few young actors making their debut. Shot in the picturesque hill station in Ooty, the film revolves round an international school.
