[RxPG] Bhubaneswar, May 21 - Police arrested a woman from Orissa's Nuapada district Monday for allegedly killing her newborn baby in the hospital where she gave birth to a healthy girl child, police said.
The 18-year-old woman Kanaka Rana, a resident of Pandelbahal was admitted at the government maternity at Komna, some 570 kilometers from the state capital early Sunday morning.
She gave birth to a healthy girl child, assistant sub-inspector of the local police station, Trilochan Das told IANS.
However, less than an hour after the delivery, staff and doctors at the hospital found the baby dead. The child was bleeding from the nose and mouth, said Das.
The woman was arrested after the hospital doctor Pabitra Mohan Rout lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the newborn child was killed by some one when he was away from the labour room along with the staff, Das added.
The woman, who was married last March, was said to have had the child from a pre-marital relationship.
The woman allegedly killed her baby in the hospital, fearing ostracism from the villagers.
