[RxPG] New Delhi, May 15 - An all-party leaders meeting Tuesday decided to form a committee to look into allegations of human trafficking against some MPs as well as misuse of the facilities given to parliamentarians.
The meeting, called by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in the wake of a Bharatiya Janata Party - MP's arrest on human smuggling charges, decided to formulate guidelines to recommend action against those who indulge in such activities.
According to informed sources, the Left party leaders were of the view that action should be taken against Babubhai Katara, the BJP MP from Gujarat's Dahod who was arrested April 18 while allegedly trying to smuggle a woman and a teenager to Toronto on the diplomatic passports of his wife and son.
However, the BJP insisted that a committee should look into the charges against Katara before taking any action against him. Katara had been asked by the Speaker to refrain from attending the Lok Sabha till a final decision is taken.
Two other MPs - Mitrasen Yadav and Ashok Rawat of Bahujan Samaj Party - named as involved in the scam have been questioned by the police. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police had also sent notices to MPs Mohammed Tahir Khan - and Ramswaroop Koli of the BJP.
