[RxPG] Lucknow, May 11 - Uttar Pradesh chief minister-designate Mayawati Friday said she would order a high-level probe into the destruction of official records in the office of Azam Khan, minister in the outgoing government, once she is sworn in the chief minister.
'As far as I am concerned, I do not consider it an ordinary matter; it merits a high level probe and I will order that once I am sworn in the chief minister,' Mayawati said here.
Outgoing Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan was caught on the wrong foot Friday when his trusted men were found destroying a number of official files in his office chamber Friday.
Khan's men had locked the official chamber of the minister to carry out their bosses' diktat to destroy and dump a large number of official files.
The operation was leaked out by an insider, following which a few TV journalists forced their way into the chamber to shoot the goings-on inside.
The minister was not present in the office, but it was pretty obvious that the task was being carried out at his behest.
'We have been asked to weed out useless papers like applications of people seeking all kinds of favours. So we were tearing these and packing them in gunny-bags,' said one of the employees who refused to divulge his name.

At her first press conference after she offered homage to all her icons and mentor Kanshi Ram at a memorial called 'Prerna Kendra', Mayawati said: 'This act is just not done; I, therefore, called up the director general of police to tell him to initiate suitable action.'
