[RxPG] New Delhi, May 16 - Congress president Sonia Gandhi Wednesday admitted that her party had failed organizationally to transform their 'spirited campaign' into votes in Uttar Pradesh and urged party members to now shift their focus to poll-bound Gujarat.
She said the party has to face a major challenge in Gujarat, which goes to polls later this year, from the Bharatiya Janata Party - and its single-point programme of communal polarisation.
Addressing the Congress parliamentary party members here, Gandhi also criticised the BJP for disrupting parliamentary proceedings during the budget session. The budget session, which was scheduled to end May 22, is likely to be over by this week.
After the meet, MP Rahul Gandhi, the star campaigner for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, told reporters that the party's organisational failure had prevented it from transforming the support he had earned through campaigns into votes.
Congratulating Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, he said he would go back to the state for party work.
