[RxPG] Chandigarh, March 19 - A cyber security research centre - the first of its kind in the country - was set up here Monday to deal with issues like data protection, confidentiality and data privacy.
The centre has been set up by the Chandigarh administration in collaboration with the National Association of Software and Service Companies - and the Punjab Engineering College.
Inaugurating the centre, Punjab Governor S.F. Rodrigues said the need for a cyber security research centre here was felt as there was speedy growth of the IT sector in the region.
He added cyber security was all the more in India as the country was the hub for outsourced IT work.
Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said the research centre will handle personal, confidential and sensitive data and create a sense of comfort and security confidence among IT companies.
He added that the centre would be used as a base for carrying out IT-related research in the country, and that Indian companies were committed to providing the highest standards of data privacy.
Karnik hoped that research at the centre would help upgrade cyber security in IT companies and enhance the credibility and reputation of the Indian IT sector in which billions of dollars have been invested.
