International telecom fair opens in Delhi

[RxPG] New Delhi, March 20 - A three-day international exposition on information, communication and technology - began here Tuesday with over 400 participants from 30 countries including China, US, Taiwan, Germany, Australia, Britain, France, Japan and Hong Kong among others.
The fair, which will be on till March 22, has been organised by the Cellular Operators Association of India - and Exhibitions India Pvt. Ltd.
'Today's ICT marketplace is shaped by the integration and convergence of information processing, telecommunications, networking, Internet solutions and services, IT security, bank and card technology, as well as research and technology,' T.V. Ramachandran, director general of COAI, said in his inaugural address.
According to him, the main objective of the exhibition is to provide an international platform for creators and implementers of new technologies to form profitable alliances and partnerships while promoting technological developments and innovations.
The annual event, being held at the sprawling grounds of Pragati Maidan in the heart of the city, is billed as one of south Asia's largest ICT events.
According to the participants, India is increasingly growing into a credible ICT destination with more and more global conglomerates like Nokia, Motorola setting up manufacturing facilities.

Some of the participants are Cisco India, Bharti Airtel, ZTE Telecom, Andrew Telecommunications, Yokogawa, Harmonic Inc., Huawei Technologies, Motorola, Nikkei Electronics Asia, Qualcomm and Shanghai Smart-Tech among others.
