Sibal honours renowned biotechnologists

[RxPG] New Delhi, March 12 - Several biotechnologists including veteran scientist Manju Sharma were Monday honoured by Minister of Science and Technology Kapil Sibal for their contribution on the field of biotechnology.
On the occasion of the 21st foundation day of the Department of Biotechnology -, Sibal honoured both young and veteran scientists in categories like National Award for Women Bio-scientists, Distinguished Biotechnologist Awards and National Bioscience Award for Career Development.
Prominent awardees included former DOB secretary Sharma - and T.P. Singh, retired biophysics professor of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences -.
While Sharma was honoured for her contribution to the promotion of biotechnology research, Singh was received the award for his structural studies of proteins and rational drug design.
Besides, 12 young scientists were conferred upon with the Innovative Young Biotechnologist Awards for their contribution to basic and applied research.
While appreciating the role of biotechnology in emancipating human life, Sibal called on venture capitalists, financial institutions, large industries and other ministries to inject investments into the sector.

DOB Secretary M.K. Bhan informed that the government is keen to promote rapid biotech industrial growth, which is already worth $1.5 billion in terms of revenue and is growing at 40 percent.
