Army organises run ahead of military games

The military games - touted to be the biggest ever sports event in India and only the second biggest to Olympics - will see over 4,000 athletes from forces of various countries competing. Over 2,000 sports officials will also participate.

[RxPG] Chandigarh, May 13 - Hundreds of people from all walks of life Sunday took part in a run organised here by the Western Command as a precursor to the 4th World Military Games to be held at Hyderabad in October this year.
Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator S.F. Rodrigues, himself a former Army chief, flagged off the run here at the Sukhna Lake.
Rodrigues and other walked a distance of nearly 2-km during the event.
Over 2,500 people, including athletes and Army officers and personnel and civilians, participated in various events of the run.
A brief but spectacular display of Bravo - the mascot of the World Military Games - sliding down from a rope from a Dhruv advanced light helicopter on a platform in the middle of the Sukhna Lake, a fly-past by three Army Cheetah helicopters and para-jumpers carrying out jumps were the highlights of the event.
Military personnel from 127 countries will participate in the World Military Games, being held in an Asian country for the first time.
