[RxPG] Ambala, March 28 - Bitterly disappointed by India's early exit from the World Cup in West Indies, a cricket fan attempted suicide in Haryana's Ambala town.
Surinder, who consumed a poisonous substance late Tuesday, was admitted to a government hospital in Ambala where doctors described his condition as serious.
Earlier Tuesday he had participated in a protest held here against the dismal performance of the Indian cricketers.
Angry cricket fans across Haryana and Punjab had burnt effigies of the Indian cricketers over the weekend following the team's defeat to Sri Lanka that sent the team out of the World Cup.
Spinner Harbhajan Singh's house was provided police security in Jalandhar city. The Chandigarh Police maintained vigil outside the house and commercial establishments owned by Yuvraj Singh and his father, former cricketer Yograj Singh.
Private security personnel were also seen at a palatial bungalow purchased by Harbhajan Singh in the upscale Sector 9 of Chandigarh.
