[RxPG] Mumbai, April 4 - Citing personal and family reasons, Greg Chappell has resigned as coach of the Indian cricket team. He informed Indian cricket board secretary Niranjan Shah and executive secretary Ratnakar Shetty about this Wednesday, requesting them to issue a media statement on his behalf.
In it, Chappell said: 'Today I informed the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India - that I would not seek an extension to my contract to coach the Indian cricket team for family and personal reasons.'
He thanked the BCCI for allowing him the honour of coaching the Indian team over the past 22 months.
'It is, and it remains, one of the most challenging coaching positions in world cricket', he added.
Chappell also expressed his gratitude to the players with whom he worked and interestingly also the media, who may have unwittingly been one of the reasons of his downfall.
Finally, he stated: 'The people of India deserve a special mention as they are the ones whose attention, enthusiasm and love and support drive the great game, and business of cricket in this country and around the world.' He wished Indian cricket and all those involved with it much joy and success in the future.
