[RxPG] New Delhi, April 17 - The Asian Football Confederation - Tuesday announced here a grant of $1 million for the development of Indian football.
'The AFC is committed to the development of football in the country. And as the president of the AFC, I grant $1 million for the development of football in India,' said AFC president Mohammed Bin Hammam while addressing the 70th anniversary of the All India Football Federation - here.
'This is not a donation but we are going to see how the money is going to develop your football,' he said.
The money will be given to the AIFF over a period of four years and it will be spent towards the game's development at the grassroot level.
The grant is additional to an aid of $400,000 made earlier by the AFC Monday.
'We are competing with European football and we are dissatisfied with a major part of Asia. The AIFF can't do anything alone but the government has to come forward to support the cause,' said Hammam.
AIFF president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said that the national body would launch a special programme this year.

The AIFF president also said that Bharati group has shown interest to associate themselves from grassroot to the professional level and that a decision will be taken soon on this matter.
