Randhawa wins AIS golf title

[RxPG] New Delhi, April 8 - Jyoti Randhawa carded an eight-under-par, 64 in the fourth and the final round to win the inaugural AIS Golf Open at Delhi Golf Club here Sunday.
Randhawa started the round with a birdie on the first hole after he hit a two-iron and four-iron on to the green and two putted for birdie in the Rs.6 million tournament.
He missed four-footers for birdie on the second and third holes, but three consecutive birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh holes saw him make the turn at four-under-par, 32.
Randhawa maintained his momentum on the back nine - making birdies on the 11th, 15th, 16th and 18th holes to card a 64, setting a new tournament record for the Delhi Golf Course with his 72-hole total of 22-under-par, 266 and took home the winner's cheque of Rs.972,000.
'The tournament record did come to my mind when I got to 19-under-par for the day and I thought I would make another birdie so that the next player trying to create a new tournament record has to work just that much harder. And after I made that, I thought I would make another,' said Randhawa.
Ashok Kumar finished sole second, seven strokes behind Randhawa after he finished with a double bogey on the last hole to card a four-under-par, 68 taking his tournament total to 15-under-par, 273 and earned Rs.672,000 for his effort.
'I played aggressively and made a great start but the bogies in the back nine dashed my chances in the race for the title,' said Kumar.
Overnight leader Gaurav Ghei finished third with a total of 13-under-par 275 and earned a cheque for Rs.378,000 this week. He had a dismal round of three-over-par, 75.
'I was not happy with my ball-striking throughout the week and it just caught up with me today,' he said.
Shiv Prakash and S.S.P Chowrasia finished the week at ten-under-par, 278 and were tied fourth for the week.

The hottest star of the day was Shiv Kapur who shot a brilliant 10-under-par, 62, shattering the existing course record of nine-under-par and leapfrogged from 20th place overnight to finish sixth with a total of eight-under-par, 280.
