[RxPG] Mumbai, April 26 - There is good news for golfers as Rs.7 million will be up for grabs in the Crompton Greaves Open golf tournament starts May 3 at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club here.
'We are delighted to welcome Crompton Greaves on board as one of our biggest sponsors on the Professional Golf Tour of India -. This is the biggest tournament ever to be held in the west and the country's leading professional golfers are looking forward to participating in the tournament,' said Ajai Gupta, tour commissioner of PGTI.
Crompton Greaves, which is also celebrating its 70th year in the industry, are offering the highest winner's purse of Rs.1.13 million so far this year.
It is only the second such event in the country after the Rs.7 million BILT Open, which was held at the beginning of the 2006-07 season.
A star-studded field led by PGTI Order of Merit leader Ashok Kumar will take part in the tournament.
He will face some tough competition from European Tour regular Shiv Kapur and other top professionals like S.S.P Chowrasia, Singh, Digvijay Singh and Mukesh Kumar.
'I am sure we will witness some world-class golf at the Crompton Greaves Open as our leading professionals vie for the title and I am looking forward to playing the tournament,' said Ashok.
'Furthermore, this tournament is being held at the prestigious Bombay Presidency Golf Club which is a tough layout, one where strategy plays an important role,' he added.
