SAARC rally flagged off by heads of states

[RxPG] New Delhi, April 3 - The SAARC car rally, which has already covered some 7,000 km across four countries, was Tuesday flagged off by leaders of all eight participating South Asian countries as their regional summit began here.
The fleet of 30 cars reached the Indian capital Monday to a rousing welcome. They will now go Jaipur and Udaipur in Rajasthan and the India leg will finish at Mumbai.
From there, the participants will fly to Colombo Sunday while their cars will be shipped there.
The rally, which began at Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh March 15, will cover seven of the eight SAARC countries. It is set to culminate in the Maldives April 14, by when the participants and their Tata Safaris would have covered 8,200 km.
About 120 people from the eight SAARC countries are taking part in the rally.

The event is non-competitive. The idea to hold it was mooted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to foster brotherhood and overall economic and human development in the SAARC fraternity.
