[RxPG] New Delhi, April 5 - Sanjeev Rajput became the seventh Indian shooter to book a berth for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games when he finished 11th in the men's 50 meter rifle three position event in the World Cup at Fort Benning in the US.
Rajput finished 11th with a score of 1,170 and bagged the Olympic berth as all the 10 shooters who finished ahead him had already qualified for the Beijing Games.
This is his personal best score. His previous best was 1,165 at the World Cup, China, last year.
Abhinav Bindra, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Gagan Narang, Anjali Bhagwat, Avneet Kaur Sidhu and Manavjeet Sandhu are amongst those who have already booked their Beijing tickets.
'I am extremely happy to be able to win the Olympic quota for India with a personal best score so far. I could have easily managed two to three points more had I not been troubled by the winds during my last series in the kneeling position, two points more would have also ensured me a place in the finals,' said Rajput.
Gagan Narang, struggling with a knee injury, finished 38th with a score of 1,154 while Imran Hassan Khan finished 46th with a score of 1,151.
Russian Artem Khadjibekov won the gold with a score of 1,276.2 while the silver went to Zhambo Jia of China with a score of 1,272. Ukrainian Artur Aivaziam won the bronze with a score of 1,271.6.
