Enviornmental Impact of Tsunami on Coastal Areas in India
A rapid assessment of the environmental damages caused by Tsunami has been commissioned by the Ministry of Environment and Forests by engaging nine specialized agencies in the country. The interim report received from the institutions indicates that there have been damages to coral reefs, mangroves, coastal forests, beaches and sand dunes. Studies also indicate salt water contamination in the drinking water wells in the coastal areas.

Special package of Rs. 3644.05 crores under �Rajiv Gandhi Rehabilitation Package" for Tsunami affected areas in India
The Government of India has approved a special package of Rs. 3644.05 crores under �Rajiv Gandhi Rehabilitation Package for Tsunami affected areas� for immediate relief and response, revival of fisheries and agriculture sectors, immediate construction of temporary (intermediate) shelters and repair/restoration of infrastructure.
